Niamh looked shaken as she left the room.
âAbby, your thoughts about her?â
âI think she is telling the truth as she knows it. I donât think she is a killer.â
âI agree, but where does that leave us?â
âFiona could still be the killer but Niamh wonât be much help in proving that one way or the other.â
David stood. âThen we move on for now and see if we find any more clues. First Iâm going to call the office.â
David called the office and was surprised when the Chief answered.
âChief, I have you on speaker phone with Abby.â
Abby waved at the phone. âHi Chief! We didnât want to bother you but itâs good we have you on the phone.â
âIâm having your calls routed directly to me. Yours is our top priority right now. Tell me how we can help.â
âWe feel like we are pawns in some larger game going on. We know Pele and Coyote were working together to have us here, but why did the tickets come from Greta? That might be an important clue as to what is going on. Are there no local Black Badge Marshals here?â
âDavid, how were you expecting us to help with that?â
âI know you canât help with Coyote and Pele, but I was hoping you could dig up a connection between Greta and the resort. Maybe she would tell you what prompted her to send us here at just the right time to be involved in this.â
âWhile Greta and I do have a history, I donât think I can convince her to tell me the truth about anything. Weâll search for a connection with the clan. The search for connections between your guests, the staff, and the victim is still ongoing. It wonât be easy with everyone involved being Veiled. How close are you to proving who did it?â
âFiona seems like the one with the most to gain, but we havenât been able to prove she did it yet. At this point, it could have been any of them, everybody has some motive. If there is something bigger at play, it might identify motives we have yet to uncover.â
âDo you need us to come up with a way to pull you out?â
âIs there a way to break though to us?â
âWe might be able to put political pressure to move you and everybody to a neutral site.â
âIâm not saying you shouldnât look into options, but I would like more time.â
âWeâll keep working the background checks and try and find the larger connections. Anything else we can do?â
âThatâs it for the moment, Chief.â
âBe careful. The killer surprised and killed a Werewolf. Theyâre not to be underestimated.â
âThanks Chief.â
