Niamh looked shaken as she left the room.

“Abby, your thoughts about her?”

“I think she is telling the truth as she knows it. I don’t think she is a killer.”

“I agree, but where does that leave us?”

“Fiona could still be the killer but Niamh won’t be much help in proving that one way or the other.”

David stood. “Then we move on for now and see if we find any more clues. First I’m going to call the office.”

David called the office and was surprised when the Chief answered.

“Chief, I have you on speaker phone with Abby.”

Abby waved at the phone. “Hi Chief! We didn’t want to bother you but it’s good we have you on the phone.”

“I’m having your calls routed directly to me. Yours is our top priority right now. Tell me how we can help.”

“We feel like we are pawns in some larger game going on. We know Pele and Coyote were working together to have us here, but why did the tickets come from Greta? That might be an important clue as to what is going on. Are there no local Black Badge Marshals here?”

“David, how were you expecting us to help with that?”

“I know you can’t help with Coyote and Pele, but I was hoping you could dig up a connection between Greta and the resort. Maybe she would tell you what prompted her to send us here at just the right time to be involved in this.”

“While Greta and I do have a history, I don’t think I can convince her to tell me the truth about anything. We’ll search for a connection with the clan. The search for connections between your guests, the staff, and the victim is still ongoing. It won’t be easy with everyone involved being Veiled. How close are you to proving who did it?”

“Fiona seems like the one with the most to gain, but we haven’t been able to prove she did it yet. At this point, it could have been any of them, everybody has some motive. If there is something bigger at play, it might identify motives we have yet to uncover.”

“Do you need us to come up with a way to pull you out?”

“Is there a way to break though to us?”

“We might be able to put political pressure to move you and everybody to a neutral site.”

“I’m not saying you shouldn’t look into options, but I would like more time.”

“We’ll keep working the background checks and try and find the larger connections. Anything else we can do?”

“That’s it for the moment, Chief.”

“Be careful. The killer surprised and killed a Werewolf. They’re not to be underestimated.”

“Thanks Chief.”
